The Museum shares over 500 life-size wooden carvings of Vermont birds, most in habitat settings, with real nests and wooden eggs. One-way window to observe many bird species at our feeders. Visit the woodcarving workshop/discovery room. Walk 46 acres of marked trails through fields and woods, by creeks and a pond. Bird and nature walks throughout the year. Museum of bird woodcarvings dedicated to birds, art or woodcarving, and conservation education.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Robert N. Spear, Jr. began carving at age 18 when a parakeet flew into his family's barn. He's been carving ever since. After many years of working on "the Project" (of carving the breeding birds of Vermont), as well as directing the Green Mountain Audubon Center, Bob and many helpful, supportive people open a small museum to showcase the carvings and allow visitors, from tourists to scout troops, to admire and learn from them.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are the only museum in Vermont using woodcarvings of birds in this way; we are a complement to the neighboring Audubon Center.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One, and no.
